Career Opportunities

Psychology is a broad field of study which uses the scientific method as the basis for accumulating knowledge in the realm of human behavior and mental processes. There are many subfields in psychology that can be pursued as a career or that are beneficial to careers in other disciplines. Psychology is considered a ‘hub’ discipline - a discipline in which scientific research is cited by scientists in many other fields (Cacioppo, 2007).

The Psychology AA-T provides academic preparation for students who plan to enter clinical or counseling work and/or focus on basic and applied research in a variety of specialization areas. Subfields include biological, cognitive, developmental, social, organizational-industrial, forensic (law), and school psychology. Psychology courses also provide a good background for work in education, healthcare, business economics, neuroscience, law, and academia.
