Clovis Community College joins prestigious ‘Achieving the Dream’ network to advance equity and student success

Apr 19, 2024

Clovis Community College is joining the prestigious ‘Achieving the Dream’ network to advance equity and student success. “Achieving the Dream” (ATD) is a network of colleges leading education reform. On April 11, they announced that CCC will be joining this prestigious network along with seven other community colleges. These colleges are making a bold commitment to their students and the communities they serve.

According to ATD President and CEO Dr. Karen A. Stout “These institutions, like all the institutions in the ATD Network, recognize the vital role community colleges play in advancing both the socio-economic mobility of their students as individuals and the overall well-being of entire communities," she said, "ATD's commitment to equity is the foundation for the significant, transformative shifts that our Network colleges undergo, ultimately benefiting the broader populations they serve. The 2024 Network cohort colleges are highly motivated to instigate change, and I am eager to witness the progress we can achieve together on this journey as they become part of our Network."

CCC (along with several other colleges) will enter into an intensive three-year program called Foundations of Transformation. It's an intensive three-year program, where we will work with ATD’s expert coaches to build strategies for student success. This includes focusing on equity, data, teaching and learning, leadership, community partnerships, student supports, and more.

The colleges in the 2024 ATD network cohort are as follows:

  • Clovis Community College, California
  • East Central College, Missouri
  • Frederick Community College, Maryland
  • Howard Community College, Maryland
  • Madera Community College, California
  • Midland College, Texas
  • Phoenix College, Arizona
  • Waubonsee Community College, Illinois

The 2024 Network cohort joins seven other colleges that recently became part of the ATD Network through the Accelerating Equitable Outcomes initiative, which is funded in part by a gift from MacKenzie Scott and focuses this year on transforming students’ experiences and outcomes at rural-serving institutions. All 15 colleges will attend ATD’s Kickoff Institute, which is an annual event to welcome incoming Network colleges. It will be held this year from June 12 to 14 in New Orleans. The Kickoff will be the start of our partnership with ATD. It will also be our introduction to ATD’s Institutional Capacity Framework which is a comprehensive assessment built on capacities that help colleges develop a student-centered culture and enhance student success.

Achieving the Dream is a partner and champion of more than 300 community colleges across the country. They have expert coaches, groundbreaking programs, and a national peer network. They provide institutions with personalized support for every aspect of their work — from foundational capacities such as leadership, data, and equity to intentional strategies for supporting students holistically, building K–12 partnerships, and more. ATD calls this “Whole College Transformation”. Our vision is for every college to be a catalyst for equitable, antiracist, and economically vibrant communities. With the right partner and the right approach, colleges can drive access, completion rates, and employment outcomes so that all students can access life-changing learning that propels them into community-changing careers.
