Why study the Languages Program at CCC

The Languages Program is comprised of lower-division courses in Chinese, French, German, and Spanish. It is designed to prepare students for more advanced language study and for practical application in an employment setting.

Clovis Community College currently offers majors in Foreign Language and Spanish; an ASL major will be available in the near future and ASL courses will be included in the Foreign Language degree which will be rebranded as the “Languages degree”.

Our instructors in the Languages program may be native or non-native to the language they teach and represent a diversity of cultural backgrounds and language learning experiences. What they do share in common is a passion for language learning and the knowledge and training necessary for conducting communication-based classes in the language of study. Instructors guide students to practice and develop skills to be able to comprehend, speak or sign, read and write within the cultural contexts of the language.

Our Philosophy

Learn a new language. Explore other cultures. Deepen your global knowledge.

The study of new languages provides the learner an in-depth view of a culture and language that help the student transcend his or her own cultural boundaries. In an increasingly globalized environment, languages are the primary tool to unlock cultural differences and facilitate communication among nations. Aside from being the hallmark of any well-educated person, the study of new languages also enhances and deepens the student’s understanding of his or her own native language.
