Office of Student Services Update - June 2024

Hello Clovis Crush!

May was quite an exciting month full of celebrations and end-of-year activities!  I attended the Veterans Resource Center graduation celebration, Spring Extravaganza, the San Joaquin Regional Investment Plan Spring Kickoff Meeting, the STEM Research Symposium, the LGBTQIA+ Rainbow Cord Pickup Party and Recognition, the EOPS/CARE/NextUP, CalWORKs, and TRiO graduation celebration, the Honors Graduation & Scholarship celebration, the Clovis Mayor’s Breakfast, and, of course, Commencement!  A huge thank you to everyone who helped and attended graduation to support our students.  We were done in an hour and a half, it was not too hot, and we had food trucks!  Our Commencement Advisory Group met last week to discuss what we did differently this year that worked well and how to make things even better for next year.  I also had the opportunity to spend a day with our Student Services Leadership Team off campus last week, where we focused on team building, discussing campus morale and communication, and training needs moving forward.  On Saturday, I marched with our Clovis team in the Pride Parade and had lots of fun seeing all the excitement and celebration.  I am looking forward to a busy June of professional development opportunities for Student Services, audits, and state reporting in various areas.

Below are some updates from a few of our areas. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer, whatever that looks like for you!

Outreach

The outreach team has been busy following up with high school students who are still enrolling for fall classes before they graduate. The Welcome Center and Virtual Help Session traffic has increased with incoming students looking for assistance registering for summer courses.  You may have noticed a boost in campus tours as well as the end of the year is a perfect time for schools to schedule college activities. The team continues to attend community events and career fairs and have started on summer projects with the ambassadors, which include an expanded “Bring Your Kids to Work Day” after last year’s successful trial event.  We look forward to sharing more details about that event soon as well as the start of our Extreme Registration events on June 26!
