Week of December 2
Good afternoon, Colleagues.
I hope you were able to enjoy some rest and relaxation on the long, holiday weekend. I know resuming your routine schedules on the Mondays following such weekends can be challenging, so I appreciate you being here with all the energy and enthusiasm for our students! With finals just around the corner, this week is critical to helping our students finish strong! And, for faculty caught in what sometimes feels like never ending mounds of grading, you're almost at the finish line, so I am wishing you well in wrapping up the semester, as well.
State Champion!
Clovis has our first ever state champion in cross country! Please join me in congratulating Rhiannon Walker and Coach CJ Albertson on Rhiannon's tremendous accomplishment. Rhiannon was undefeated all season, so this win caps a stellar season for her. The women's team placed second, one spot better than last year. The men finished 13th, a finish we applaud given all that they have had to overcome recently with the death of a former teammate and Clovis graduate. We are very proud of all our student-athletes who continue to perform so well academically and athletically. Kudos to the entire Athletics team headed up by Director James Sewell for maintaining an environment of respect and high standards in performance!
Senates
Thanks to the executive leadership of the Classified Senate and the Academic Senate for their ongoing collaborations with me and the executive leadership of this college. Caryss Johnson, Leslie King, and Vicky Cockrell meet regularly with me and Kimberly Duong on matters important to their constituency base. Our last conversation included some insights on topics of interest to the Classified Professionals for our Opening Day in January. Likewise, Max Hembd and Galin Dent have met regularly with me, James Ortez, and Kira Tippins to continue discussions on topics of importance to faculty. These meetings with both groups provide meaningful opportunities for honest communication and collaborations across constituencies which keep the institution operating smoothly and assuring progress on our collective goals.
