Office of Instruction Update - November 2023
Good morning, colleagues.
November flew by and, like all of you, I too am wrapped up in activities to close out the semester.. Some on-campus work that I can highlight includes continued efforts with the Math Department on the pilot project for Calculus students, Ad Astra implementation, NFI, and the hiring of the new Dean of Instruction (Physical & Computational Sciences and DE).
- The Math Department will enter into its second semester of the pilot in Spring 2024 with a goal of submitting data from our college-wide study to the CCCCO in June 2024. Along the way, we are learning a great deal about working with our campus partners (Counseling, Tutoring, etc.) on supporting our students.
- The Ad Astra implementation is moving forward with all deans, Margee Loya, Ryan Feyk-Miney, Marco, and myself. We are learning what the program can do to improve/automate the scheduling process as well as generate reports that will make the process more efficient for all. We are wrapping up another term of NFI with another cohort of fantastic additions to the Clovis Crush family! Please watch for new faculty in committee meetings as they observe governance in action in the spring semester.
- Finally, we will be forwarding a name to the SCCCD Board of Trustees for the sixth and final member of our spectacular dean team! My gratitude to the committee who worked diligently on a successful outcome.
I was able to enjoy some much-needed time with my extended family last month, which I hope all of you did, as well! I wish you all the best in wrapping up the semester: in whatever capacity you work with and serve our students, may your efforts be successful and rewarding.
Thanks,
Monica Chahal, Ed.D. (she, her)
Vice President of Instruction
