Office of Instruction Update - March 2024

Good morning! Here are a few highlights for the month of March:

CTE Night

A big thank you to Laura Hill and Erin Kent for our first ever CTE Night, a convening of all CTE Advisory committees that ended with appetizers, drinks, and live music! I was able to meet with a few of our advisory committee members and am grateful to the faculty and deans who participated and helped make the evening a success. I walked away as a winner in the silent auction for a wine basket! I had to watch the bidding like a hawk and outdo Brent Nabors, but the end result was worth it!

FCC Screening Committee

I concluded my service on a screening committee at FCC. It was a pleasure to spend time with FCC colleagues...staff, faculty, and administrators...as well as to spend time on their campus learning a bit more about who they are. I appreciated being asked to serve and am pleased to say the search ended well.

President's Luncheon

I attended the President's Luncheon on March 6 where I had the pleasure to meet some community leaders and watch some amazing faculty, staff, and students in action as they represented their respective programs to the community. Those stopping by for information about our programs were impressed with the information as well as the free giveaways!

New Faculty Institute (NFI) Cohort

On March 8, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with this year's NFI cohort for a spring check-in. We are in the process of enhancing an already strong and effective program by adding a spring semester component. NFI cohort members provided a list of committees of interest in the fall, and Ann Brandon matched them up as best she could with their first or second choice. New faculty were then asked to attend at least one meeting of their assigned committee each month. In March, we reconvened to check in on the cohort to find out how this was going as well as on the progress they were making this semester. The objective was to allow them an opportunity to observe participatory governance in action and in preparation for their participation on committees next year.

DEIA Faculty Evaluation Training Workgroup

I continued my service on the DEIA Faculty Evaluation Training Workgroup as anadministrative representative. It has been interesting working alongside faculty to make some progress on this front, and there have been lots of good conversations. I'm grateful for this opportunity.

Thanks,
