Office of Administrative Services Update - March 2025
January
It was great to see everyone back at the beginning of the Spring semester.
At the top of the list, we welcomed back Sergio the week before the semester started. I am extremely happy to have him back leading our amazing building services and grounds teams.
January 6th, Governor Newsom gave a sneak peek at his 2025-2026 budget proposal with the full update occurring on January 10th. Most categorical programs received level or workload funding in the Governor’s proposal, with certain programs receiving cost-of-living adjustments. We also saw that the Kinesiology and Wellness Center has been selected for the Governor’s Proposed Capital Outlay Projects for the California Community Colleges. I want to note that the January proposal is subject change with the May revise but the initial proposal did not show cuts to our programs.
January 14th, the college hosted a reception with the San Joaquin Valley Town Hall in the AC3 Lobby for Jeff Atmajian, a Fresno native and composer, arranger, and orchestrator for many films. Students were able to meet Jeff Atmajian and hear about his journey with music. A big thanks to Susan Jones, Jake Rosenbery, Teresa Mendes, Max Hembd, our building services team, Sara Ovalle and the Crush Café team, and everyone else for their help with making this event a success.
January 16th, I attended the Measure Q Gratitude Gathering where we celebrated the passing of Measure Q. This bond will allow us to fund key projects around our district.
February
Our shortest month of the year always feels like it flies by.
We welcomed Leslie Hernandez to the Administrative Services team at the beginning of February. She is our office specialist who is housed at Herndon Campus in the Building A front desk. While Leslie is new to our department, she is not new to our college. Leslie comes to us from the TRIO department and carries with her knowledge of the services offered for our students.
I had the pleasure of attending the Clovis Soroptimist Scholarship ceremony on February 6th, where I witnessed many incredible women receive scholarships to support their college education. It was inspiring to see 16 women from Clovis Community College among the recipients.
The last half of the month was full of meetings and most notably, our accreditation visit. I attended the exit interview and heard the comments the visiting team had about the work of our college.
Lastly, our business office will be experiencing a change in staffing. We will be saying farewell to Judson Ervin at the end of this week as he has accepted a promotion as Budget Technician within the Student Success, Equity, and Outreach department on our college. Congratulations Judson!
We have begun the recruitment process to fill the accounting technician position and will provide an update once a decision has been made.
