Clovis Community College is proud to offer two free federally funded TRIO programs (SSS & STEM) that serve college students who are first-generation, low-income, or have a disability. Our programs assist to guide, mentor, and motivate students towards the successful completion of their educational goals. We assist students in successfully completing a certificate, associate degree, and/or transfer to a 4-year institution.
We also offer students opportunities to learn about time management and study skills workshops, career advising, cultural awareness opportunities, financial literacy workshops, and life-long learning.
TRIO students must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Low income level as determined by federal guidelines for family unit size
- First-generation college student (neither parent has a bachelor’s degree in the United States)
- Have a documented disability
- Be enrolled at Clovis Community College pursuing a certificate, associate degree, or planning to transfer to a four-year institution
- Enrolled full time (12 units+) and in good academic standing (2.0 GPA)
- Have not completed more than 50 units
The TRIO-SSS program is currently funded to serve 140 students and the TRIO-STEM program is currently funded to serve 120 students. Federal regulations require that at least 2/3 of the participants be both first-generation and low-income or low-income and have a documented disability
The services provided to TRIO students in the Student Support Services (SSS) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs are essentially the same. Students are encouraged to apply for the program that best aligns with their major. The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program provides specific opportunities for students pursuing majors in the STEM fields. The SSS program serves students in all other majors.
