Each spring semester, the Clovis Community College Academic Senate awards two faculty members the TNT Award for Faculty Excellence. The TNT award is a Senate and faculty-driven accolade that aims to illuminate, appreciate, and honor, outstanding individuals whose meaningful work, above, beyond, behind, and between the scenes, in often overlooked, unheralded, and interstitial areas, makes a very real difference in all our lives at the college.
Stacy McArron was selected because her depth of knowledge regarding articulation is very impressive. She always finds the data, the policy, or the e-mail to back up what she is saying or support the work of our faculty and administrators revising and building academic programs. Without Stacy, the curriculum at Clovis Community College would not be what it is. Her service is not only limited to our campus. Stacy has participated in statewide curriculum audits that have benefited our college, so we are always up-to-date and “in the know” of what’s happening with coursework across universities and community colleges in our state. Her relationships and connections within the network of articulation officers have allowed faculty and administrators to ask questions about what other campuses are doing and get answers to their questions in a timely manner.
While that work is dynamite in itself, Stacy continued to work and support our campus over the past few years as she was battling cancer. Despite ongoing medical treatments and appointments, Stacy found a way to support colleagues whether she directly assisted them or referred them to someone else when unavailable. Our students, colleagues, and college community have all benefited from the unsung and outstanding contributions she has made behind the scenes with the curriculum. Stacy’s work, heart, and tenacity exemplify the hope and the reality of, “creating opportunities, one student at a time.”
Stephanie Coffman was awarded the TNT award because she has done a phenomenal job in transforming the face of many of our biology classes. She has greatly enhanced the readability, interactivity, and usability of our Canvases for students and faculty. She has brought a vast knowledge base to our college with OER and her hard work has stunning results in our classes, on the ground, in person, and online. Stephanie is readily available, approachable, and willing to help with any questions. Stephanie has worked hard to develop an Open Education Resource Committee and a peer review process to create OER. She is a major asset to this college, and she is very deserving of this award.
