Open Education Week is an annual celebration of people and activities that apply open practices to education around the world.
CCC is excited to recognize and celebrate five amazing instructors using Open Educational Resources. Professor David Oliver, Dr. Val Syverson and Dr. Michelle Selvans from the Geology Department are saving students up to $57,600 every single semester with Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) courses.
Communication Professor Anna Martinez is the author of the OER textbook, "Oral Interpretation of Literature," which she created under an open license to provide to her students at no cost. Anna was initially motivated to use an OER textbook to lower textbook costs for her students.
Biology Professor Dr. Rosa Alcazar celebrates Open Ed Week with a project that incorporates Open Access Data in Open Education Resources. Dr. Alcazar is the co-PI on the C-MOOR grant, which aims to give students real research experience at the community college in collaboration with the Carnegie Institution and Johns Hopkins University.
