Women's swim and dive team after 400 relay at Cupertino

Clovis Crush Swim and Dive Team Compete In CCCAA State Swim and Dive Championships

State Meet - Day 1

Cupertino, CA. The Clovis Community College Swim and Dive team completed Day 1 of the three day competition for the CCCAA State Swim and Dive Championships in Cupertino on Thursday, May 2. The first day was full of highlights for the Crush aquatic athletes!

The women’s team currently sit in 14th place (out of 52 teams) after scoring in all 5 opportunities that were available, on that day. The team was led by Sophomore diver, Jade Standing, who placed 9th in the 1m springboard with a personal best score. Other individuals finding their way to scoring places include Sara Barcelos and Kristina Copeland who both placed in the consolation final of the 500 freestyle, 14th and 15th, respectively.

The Lady Crush placed 2 relays in scoring positions. The team of Ari Hernandez, Hannah Carbajal, Standing, and Dani Denton placed 12th in the 200 free relay, while the team of Denton, Samantha Rockey, Chloe Telian, and Helen Harris placed 13th in the 400 medley relay. The CCC 400 medley relay team finished with a new school record in the event.

The men’s team are currently placed 17th (out of 48 teams), with 3 participants scoring in all 3 of their individual events. Returning CCCAA All-American Diver, Jaylan Neal finished 6th on the 3m springboard to, once again, hold the honor of CCCAA All-American, with his top 8 finish. His freshman teammate, Joshua Depaz, finished just behind him to take 7th place and also the title of CCCAA All-American. Returning CCCAA All-American swimmer, Dante Ramos, finished 10th in the 500 freestyle with a new school record.

The team continues the meet today with 9 individual scoring opportunities and 2 women’s relays. The meet concludes on Saturday, May 4.

State Meet - Day 2

Cupertino, CA. The Clovis Community College Swim and Dive team continued competition at the CCCAA State Swim and Dive Championships in Cupertino on Friday, May 2. This was the second day of three days of competition for the Crush Swim and Dive teams.

On the women’s side, the biggest highlight came from a relay effort. The 200 medley relay team of Dani Denton, Sammie Rockey, Chloe Telian, and Ari Hernandez not only bettered their entry time by over 2 seconds, but they also improved from their 16th seed to placing 8th, and set the CCC school record in the process! Another outstanding relay performance came in the 800 freestyle relay, where Telian and Denton combined with Sara Barcelos and Kristina Copeland to finish 12th in the event and pick up some valuable points.

Individually, four separate Crush women earned scoring places. Jade Standing finished her diving career with by earning 11th place on the 3m springboard. Hannah Carbajal recorded a personal best to finish 11th in the 400 individual medley. Sammie Rockey tied for 14th in the 100 breastroke. The scoring was rounded out by a 15th placed finish by Kristina Copeland in the 200 freestyle. The Lady Crush are currently holding 12th place (out of 52 teams) with a total of 80.5 points, which is less than 20 points way from entering the top 10.

On the men’s side, three scoring opportunities yielded only one scoring event. Sophomore, returning CCCAA All-American improved on his 6th placed 2018 State Meet finish in the 1m springboard event by placing one higher this year. Neal’s 5th placed finish earns him his third CCCAA All-American honor and caps off an illustrious diving career in which he can claim to be the most successful diver in Crush history and also the highest total point scorer at the State Meet of any aquatic athlete over the course of his career. The men’s team have accumulated 42 points in the 2 days of competition, which is good enough for the men’s team to currently reside in 20th place (out of 48 teams).

The CCCAA State Championship swim and dive meet concludes Saturday with 6 scoring opportunities for the Crush aquatic athletes, along with some eager anticipation to see if the Women’s team can move into the top 10 and a chance for the men to retain a place in the top 20.
