Employees at Clovis Community College can now take free self defense training. It's available to all classified professionals and student workers.
CCC first made this program available in March and is one of the growing number of colleges that offer self defense programs. This is a huge step in the right direction, but is also a sign of a bigger problem. According to the CDC, over half of women have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes, and one in four women experienced completed or attempted rape.
The program that CCC offers is called RAD, which stands for Rape Aggression Defense. It focuses on identifying, preventing, and avoiding dangerous situations which can lead to assault or rape. The first session is informational, but after that it goes into hands-on defense strategies where you can test what you've learned with a RAD instructor.
With this course you can be empowered to make a plan of action to defend yourself no matter what your physical condition or age is.
To participate, you must register by June 14th.
Classes are 1:30-4pm. You must attend all four classes.
