Participants have 5 minutes to read from a literary work by a Black author or writer. Participants can read a favorite poem or poems, an excerpt from an essay or article, music lyrics, a short story, or even something from a children’s book. Literary resources are available all month long in the Library. The National African American Read-In, established in 1990, is the nation’s first and oldest event dedicated to diversity in literature.
