Recommended Pathway

Semester 1:

Recommended Courses:
Course Number Course Title Units Advising/Action Notes
Math 5A Math Analysis I 5 Major Core - Check with counselor regarding math eligibility
Engineering (ENGR) 10 Introduction to Engineering 2 Major Core
*Computer Science (CSCI) 40 or
Engr 40
Programming Concepts & Methodology I or
Programming for Scientists and Engineers
4 Major Core option; recommended to take CSCI 40, easier transition to CSCI 41
Semester Units: 11
  • Math placement will be determined by reviewing high school transcript or other college transcript
  • A student ready for MATH 5A will follow this pathway. Students starting at a lower math level (MATH 4A or MATH 4B) will take longer than two years to complete this certificate. They will, however, have the opportunity to complete more of their General Education requirements.

  • Apply for certificate during January or February on Webadvisor

This certificate requires four courses from the following: Engr 6, Engr 8, CSCI 40 or Engr 40, CSCI 41, Chem 3A or 1A, Physics 4C

Student should carefully plan which of these courses to take based on their specific major and intended transfer institution(s). Some transfer institutions will have minimum requirements for transfer that will necessitate choosing more than 4 courses from this section.

Students should complete the programming courses specifically required by his/her transfer institution choice. The choices are CSCI 40 Programming Concepts & Methodology I, ENGR 40 Programming for Scientists & Engineers, or ENGR 5 Programming & Problem Solving in MATLAB.

Student should check the minimum chemistry transfer requirements for his or her intended transfer institution.

If you plan to pursue the bachelor’s degree at Fresno State there are additional requirements that can be completed at CCC: Econ 1A or 1B, History 11 or 12/12H, Polisci 2/2H, Phil 1, Biology 3. Follow up with a counselor to review this information in greater detail.

Things to Think About

  • Community Organizations – Internships Career Center Connection
  • Transfer requirements for the CSU’s, UC’s, and Private institutions
  • Recommend involvement in Engineering Club: Advisor Christopher Glaves
  • Utilize the Tutorial Services
  • Follow up with Instructors during office hours
  • It is crucial that the student investigate the transfer requirements for each four-year institution that they plan to apply to for transfer. This plan was made with CSU Fresno primarily in mind. Other transfer institutions may require modifying the courses in this plan.
