Recommended Pathway

Semester 1:

Recommended Courses:
Course Number Course Title Units Advising/Action Notes
Math 5A Math Analysis I 5 Check with counselor regarding math eligibility
Engineering (ENGR) 10 Introduction to Engineering 2 Major Core
Engr 40 or
Computer Science(CSCI) 40
Programming for Scientists and Engineers or
Programming Concepts and Methodology I
4 Major Core Option
Semester Units: 11
  • Math placement will be determined by reviewing high school transcript or other college transcript
  • A student ready for MATH 5A will follow this pathway. Students starting at a lower math level (MATH 4A or MATH 4B) will take longer than two years to complete this certificate. They will, however, have the opportunity to complete more of their General Education requirements.
  • AP (Advanced Placement) credit can satisfy some course requirements

Semester 2:

Recommended Courses:
Course Number Course Title Units Advising/Action Notes
Math 5B Math Analysis II 4 Major Core
Physics 4A Physics for Scientists and Engineers 4 Major Core
Chemistry 3A or 1A Introductory Chemistry or General Chemistry 4-5 Major Core option
Semester Units: 12-13
  • Check with counselor to determine which chemistry course to take; dependent on transfer institution

Semester 3:

Recommended Courses:
Course Number Course Title Units Advising/Action Notes
Math 6 Math Analysis III 5 Major Core
Physics 4B Physics for Scientists and Engineers 4 Major Core
Engineering 5 Programming and Problem-Solving 3 Major Core Option
Semester Units: 12

Semester 4:

Recommended Courses:
Course Number Course Title Units Advising/Action Notes
Math 17 Differential Equations and Linear Algebra 5 Major Core
Physics 4C Physics for Scientists and Engineers 4 Major Core Option; Follow up with counselor
Engineering 6 Electric Circuits Analysis with Lab 4 Major Core Option
Semester Units: 13
  • Apply for certificate of achievement on webadvisor at the beginning of the semester.

This certificate requires four course from the following: Engr 6, Engr (40 or 5) or CSCI 40, Chem 3A or Chem 1A, Physics 4C

*Student should carefully plan which of these courses to take based on their specific major and intended transfer institution(s). Some transfer institutions will have minimum requirements for transfer that will necessitate choosing more than 4 courses from this section.

*As a first programming course, student should complete the programming course specifically required by his/her transfer institution of choice. The choices are: ENGR 40 Programming for Scientists and Engineers (4 units), ENGR 5 Programming and Problem Solving in MATLAB (3 units), and CSCI 40 Programming Concepts and Methodology I (4 units).

*Credit will not be given for both ENGR 40 and CSCI 40. If ENGR 5 was chosen as a first programming course, then the student could choose ENGR 40 or CSCI 40 as a second programming course. If ENGR 40 or CSCI 40 was chosen as a first programming course, then the student could choose ENGR 5 as a second programming course.

*Students should check the minimum chemistry transfer requirements for his or her intended transfer institution.

If you plan to pursue the bachelor’s degree at Fresno State there are additional requirements that can be completed at CCC: Econ 1A or 1B, History 11 or 12/12H, Polisci 2/2H, Phil 1, Biology 3. Follow up with a counselor to review this information in greater detail

Things to Think About

  • Community Organizations – Internships Career Center Connection
  • Transfer requirements for the CSU’s, UC’s, and Private institutions
  • Recommend involvement in Engineering Club: Advisor Christopher Glaves
  • Utilize the Tutorial Services
  • Follow up with Instructors during office hours
  • It is crucial that the student investigate the transfer requirements for each four-year institution that they plan to apply to for transfer. This plan was developed with CSU Fresno primarily in mind. Other transfer institutions may require modifying the courses in this plan.
  • A student ready for MATH 5A will follow this pathway. Students starting at a lower math level (MATH 4A or MATH 4B) will take longer than two years to complete this certificate. They will, however, have the opportunity to complete more of their General Education requirements.
