Week of September 30, 2024

Good morning, Colleagues!

New Curriculum

Congratulations to Teresa Mendes, Scott Phillips, and Omar Ruiz for their work to add new curriculum options for our students effective this semester! Teresa and Omar shepherded through all approvals the Certificate of Achievement in Honors and Scott did the same for the Certificate of Achievement in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Thank you also to the Curriculum team and discipline faculty who supported their efforts along the way.

Hispanic Heritage Month

Shout out to Maricarmen Figueroa and the entire Student Activities team as well as to Edgar Parilla and other faculty who led and supported the various events hosted on our campus in support of Hispanic Heritage Month! I was able to attend Friday's Noche de Baile, and it was great to see families enjoying the booths, painting, dancing, etc. I know it takes a lot of time to pull together such an event, and I hope we can continue to support the efforts of colleagues who do so much to provide such opportunities to the campus community.

Upcoming

On Thursday (10/3), we will host the Chancellor's Circle Annual Event, which starts at 5:30 pm in AC3. The event welcomes new members and is an opportunity for us to showcase our college and especially AC3 to the group. This Foundation event helps us support our students through various opportunities, including scholarships, and I am grateful for a chance to show off all that we offer our community! Thank you in advance to our Student Ambassadors who will be leading tours through the building. We will avoid disrupting classes in progress, though you may notice groups of people walking by.

Next Wednesday (10/9), we will host the ribbon cutting for AC3, and I hope you will join in! Please let Bonnie know so she knows how many to expect. We be outside AC3 just in front of the student lounge from 10:00-10:30, and attendees will have a chance to see the inside on tours led by Student Ambassadors. Community members, local elected officials, trustees, and many more have been invited, so you will see a lot more activity than normal on campus next Wednesday.

There will be two Coffee with the Interim President events this month at local Starbucks:

  • Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 9–10 a.m., on Sommerville and Perrin
  • Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 9–10 a.m., on Herndon and Willow

I welcome your attendance! Also, please feel free to share the information with family, friends, or neighbors who may be interested.

Thank you,

Monica Chahal, Ed.D.
